지난 주말, 강원도 양양 해변에서 서핑을 하다가 낙뢰 사고를 당한 30대 1명이 결국 숨지는 사고가 있었는데요.
여름철에 집중되는 낙뢰 사고의 예방과 대처법을 김아영 기자가 알려드립니다.
캄캄한 밤, 아파트 단지 위로 섬광이 번쩍이고 지나갑니다.
비슷한 시각, 분당에서도 번개가 친다는 제보가 들어왔습니다.
작년 한 해 동안 국내에서 관측된 벼락의 90%는 5월부터 8월 사이에 관측됐습니다.
비가 내리거나 공기 아랫부분에 습할 때 집중됩니다.
만약 일기예보를 보고 벼락이 칠 위험이 있다면, 산지나 주변에 건물이 없는 평지는 피하는 게 좋습니다.
산지의 경우, 능선에 따라 공기가 상승하면서 상승해져 번개가 칠 가능성이 높아집니다.
또, 주변에 다른 구조물이 없는 평지에 사람들이 서 있으면 사람이 피뢰침이 될 수 있어 위험합니다.
최근 10년간 벼락 때문에 7명이 숨지고 19명이 다쳤는데, 이들 중 절반은 산지에서, 31%는 골프장 같은 평지에서 사고를 당했습니다.
해변도 평지여서 비올 때 가지 않는 게 좋습니다.
특히 바다에 벼락을 치게 되면, 표면에 흐르는 전류의 특성상 바닷속보다 해수에 집중돼 바닷가는 더욱 위험합니다.
전문가들은 무조건 피하는 게 중요하다며, 이른바 30, 30 안전규칙을 기억하라고 조언합니다.
번개가 친 뒤 30초 안에 천둥이 울리면 곧바로 건물이나 차 안으로 대피하고, 마지막 천둥소리가 난 뒤 최소한 30분 정도 더 기다렸다가 움직이라는 겁니다.
만약 산에 있다면, 물이 없는 움푹 파인 곳이나 동굴 안으로 몸을 피하고, 평지에 있다면 키 큰 나무나 전봇대와 멀리 떨어져 몸을 가능한 한 맞추는 게 좋습니다.

Last weekend, a man in his 30s was struck by lightning while surfing at Yangyang Beach in Gangwon Province and eventually died. Reporter Kim Ah-young will tell you how to prevent and deal with lightning accidents, which are concentrated in the summer. In the dark night, a flash of light passes over the apartment complex. Around the same time, we received a report that lightning had struck in Bundang. 90% of the lightning observed in Korea last year was observed between May and August. It is concentrated when it rains or the lower part of the air is humid. If you check the weather forecast and there is a risk of lightning, it is best to avoid mountains or flat areas without buildings nearby. In the case of mountains, the possibility of lightning increases as the air rises along the ridge. Also, if people are standing in a flat area without other structures, they can become lightning rods, which is dangerous. In the past 10 years, 7 people have died and 19 have been injured due to lightning. Half of them were in the mountains, and 31% had accidents in flat areas like golf courses. Beaches are also flat, so it's best not to go when it rains. Especially if lightning strikes the sea, it is more dangerous on the beach due to the characteristics of the current flowing on the surface being concentrated in the seawater rather than in the sea. Experts emphasize the importance of avoiding lightning at all costs and advise remembering the so-called 30, 30 safety rule. If thunder roars within 30 seconds after lightning strikes, immediately take refuge in a building or car, and wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder sound before moving. If you are in the mountains, avoid your body in a deep hollow or cave without water, and if you are in a flat area, it is best to align your body as far away from tall trees or utility poles as possible.
