서핑의 명소인 강원 양양 인구해변, 백사장 주변의 컨테이너 건물 안에서 관광객과 학생들이 화분을 만들고 있습니다.
주둥이가 잘린 병을 포개 물 통로를 만들고 흙을 채우자, 예쁜 화분이 탄생합니다.
화분 재료는 매년 양양 인구 해변 일대에서 배출되는 10만여 개의 빈 술병입니다.
이런 수입 주류병들은 국내병과 원료 등이 달라 재활용이 어려워, 주로 땅에 묻는 방식으로 폐기하고 있는 상황입니다.
고민하던 주민들이 지난달부터 화분 제작 체험 프로그램을 운영하기 시작했습니다.
벌써 2000개 넘는 빈 술병이 재활용됐습니다.
붓을 든 청년 6명이 길이 5m의 검은 색 판에 깃털을 그립니다.
그림의 배경이 된 재료는 부서져 못 쓰게 된 서핑보드입니다.
매년 양양에서 발생하는 폐서핑보드는 2000여 개.
재활용이 힘든 열경화성 플라스틱 재질로 만들어져 그냥 버려지고 있습니다.
이 가운데 200여 개가 의자나 입간판으로 재탄생했습니다.
환경을 보호하자는 취지에 공감한 전국의 서핑 동호인들도 제작에 적극 참여하고 있습니다.
깨끗한 해변을 지키고 버려지는 자원을 재활용하려는 노력들이 관광객들과 동호인들에게 좋은 반응을 얻고 있습니다.

Every summer, the Yangyang beach in Gangwon, a famous surfing spot, is piled up with liquor bottles and surfboards. It was difficult to recycle, causing headaches for the local government, but the residents found a solution. This is reporter Lee Jun-ho. At the container building near the white sand beach of Yangyang, a famous surfing spot in Gangwon, tourists and students are making flower pots. By stacking bottles with cut-off mouths to create a water passage and filling them with soil, beautiful flower pots are born. The materials for the flower pots are about 100,000 empty liquor bottles that are discharged every year from the Yangyang beach area. These imported liquor bottles are difficult to recycle because they are different from domestic bottles and raw materials, and are mainly disposed of by burying them in the ground. Residents who were worried started operating a flower pot making experience program last month. Already over 2,000 empty liquor bottles have been recycled. Six young people with brushes are drawing feathers on a 5m long black board. The material that became the background of the picture is a broken surfboard that can't be used. Every year, about 2,000 waste surfboards are produced in Yangyang. They are made of thermosetting plastic material that is difficult to recycle and are just thrown away. Among them, about 200 have been reborn as chairs or signboards. Surfing enthusiasts nationwide who sympathize with the purpose of protecting the environment are also actively participating in the production. Efforts to protect clean beaches and recycle discarded resources are receiving positive responses from tourists and enthusiasts.
