경매가 7번이나 유찰된 끝에 겨우 팔린 건데, 혈세 낭비 논란이 일고 있습니다.
정성오 기자가 취재했습니다. 경상남도가 지난 2011년 만든 거북선입니다.
원형을 그대로 복원하겠다며 이순신 프로젝트의 하나로 건조된 이 거북선에는 국비와 지방비를 포함해 16억 원이 투입됐습니다.
하지만 금강 소나무를 사용했다는 홍보와 달리, 저가의 목재가 무려 81%나 사용된 것으로 드러나면서 제작 업체 대표가 구속됐습니다.
거북선과 판옥선의 외판에 보이는 부분은 모두 수입 목재라고 보시면 됩니다. 전시하겠다면서 이 거북선을 거제도 앞바다로 가져갔는데, 물이 새고 균형을 잡지 못해 뜨지도 못했습니다.
결국 1년 만에 육지로 옮겨졌습니다.
10여 년이 흐르면서 선채는 썩고 부서졌고, 지난해 태풍 힌남노 당시에는 꼬리 부분이 깨지고 옆구리에는 구멍도 뚫렸습니다. 거제시는 1억 5000만 원 예산을 투입해 유지 보수에 나섰지만, 목재 수명이 다했다는 판단에 따라 폐기를 결정하고 매각을 시도했습니다.
그런데 최초 1억 2000만 원으로 시작한 경매가 7차례나 유찰됐고, 결국 154만 원에 겨우 낙찰됐습니다.
제작 비용의 0.1%도 안 되는 가격입니다. 철거하면서 너무 아쉬운 부분이 있고 해서 거제시가 누군가가 재활용할 수 있지 않을까 그래서 한번 입찰을 붙여봤고.
매매 계약이 예정대로 체결되면, 낙찰자는 30일 안에 무게 120톤이 넘는 거북선을 직접 가져가야 합니다. MBC 뉴스, 정성오입니다.

A turtle ship in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, which had a budget of 1.6 billion won, was auctioned off at a bargain price of 1.54 million won. The auction was finally sold after being passed over seven times, sparking controversy over the waste of taxpayers' money. Reporter Jeong Seong-oh covered the story. This turtle ship was built by South Gyeongsang Province in 2011. As part of the Yi Sun-shin project, the ship was built with the intention of restoring the original form, with a total of 1.6 billion won invested, including national and local funds. However, the manufacturer's representative was arrested when it was revealed that 81% of the ship was made of cheap wood, contrary to the promotion that it was made of Geumgang pine. All visible parts of the turtle ship and the panokseon are imported wood. The ship was taken to the sea off Geoje Island for display, but it could not float due to water leakage and imbalance. Eventually, it was moved to land after a year. Over the course of about 10 years, the hull rotted and broke, and during Typhoon Hinnamno last year, the tail broke and a hole was punched in the side. Geoje City invested a budget of 150 million won for maintenance, but decided to dispose of it and attempted to sell it off due to the judgment that the lifespan of the wood was over. However, the auction, which started at 120 million won, was passed over seven times, and eventually sold for just 1.54 million won. This is less than 0.1% of the production cost. Geoje City tried to auction it off in the hope that someone might be able to recycle it, as it was a pity to dismantle it.
