영화 기생충이 칸과 오스카를 휩쓸 때만 해도, 한국 영화는 앞으로 꽃길만 걸을것 같았는데요.
요즘은 사상 최악의 위기라는 말까지 나오고 있다고 합니다.
한국 영화가 왜 이런 상황을 맞게 된 건지, 임소정 기자가 전해드립니다.
다음 주 개봉 예정인 영화 '드림', 1600만 명이 관람한 영화 '극한직업'의 이병헌 4년 만에 내놓은 작품입니다.
-(인터뷰) 분위기가 조금 많이 다운돼있고 안 좋은데, 너무 떨려서 구원 투수까지는 아니더라도 도움이 됐으면 하는 마음이 있고요. -(기자) 천만 감독이 박서준, 아이유 같은 스타들을 주연으로 내세우고도 긴장을 놓지못하는 건, 그만큼 한국 영화의 상황이 좋지 않기 때문입니다.
올해 3월까지 개봉한 주요 한국 영화는 7편.
이 중 100만 관객을 넘긴 영화는 '교섭' 한 작품뿐이고, 손익분기점을 넘긴 영화는 한 편도 없습니다.
올해 1분기 한국 영화의 매출액은 798억 원.
코로나 이전인 2019년의 4분의 1 수준입니다.
매출액 점유율은 지난달만 놓고 보면, 2004년 이후 가장 낮습니다.
3, 4, 5월이 비수기인 걸 감안해도, 한국 영화 사상 역대 최악의 위기라는 말이 나오는 이유입니다.
관객들은 극장을 찾지 않는 이유로 가격을 먼저 꼽았습니다.
-(인터뷰) 좀 부담이 되죠.
화면 별로 신경 안 쓰면, 그냥 집에서 편하게 보는 게 좀 더 합리적이지 않나. -(기자) 코로나로 직격탄을 맞은 극장들은 관람료는 앞다퉈 인상했습니다.
차라리 한 달 치 OTT 사용료를 내고 집에서 여러 콘텐츠를 보는 게 낫다는 인식이 퍼진겁니다.
정말 재밌고 많이 찾는 사람들 것만 보는 경우가 많은 것 같아요.
관객이 줄면서 개봉이 늦어지는 영화도 늘고 있습니다.
제작을 마치고도 개봉하지 못한 이른바 '창고 영화'는 90편에 이르는 것으로 알려졌습니다.
투자금이 묶이다 보니 새로운 영화 촬영도 주춤한데, 관람료의 3%에 불과한 영화 발전 기금마저 곧 고갈될 위기를 맞고 있습니다.
OTT에서 선풍적인 인기를 끌고 있는 작품들도 90% 이상은 영화 인력들이 만든 거예요.
잘못하다가는 정말 어마어마한 고사가 될지도 모른다. -(기자) 한국 영화가 고전한 반면, 외국 영화 매출액은 2019년 수준을 넘어섰습니다.
-(인터뷰) 모든 게 과도기인 것 같아요.
영화의 시대가 또 분명히, 저는 온다.
어떤 콘텐츠를 만들어야 관객분들이 극장으로 다시 돌아올 수 있을 것인가, 치열하게 고민을. 영화진흥위원회는 다음 달 위기 극복을 위한 협의체를 가동하기로 했습니다.

Reporter Im So-jung will tell you why Korean cinema is in this situation. The movie Dream, which is scheduled to be released next week, is a work released by Lee Byung-hun, who attracted 16 million viewers with the movie Extreme Job, after four years. -(Interview) The atmosphere is a bit down and not good, but I'm so nervous that I hope it would be helpful, even if it's not a relief pitcher. -(Reporter) The reason why even the director who attracted ten million viewers can't relax, even with stars like Park Seo-joon and IU as the lead actors, is because the situation of Korean cinema is not good. The major Korean films released until March this year are seven. Among them, only the movie Negotiation attracted more than one million viewers, and there is no movie that has reached the break-even point. The sales of Korean films in the first quarter of this year were 79.8 billion won. This is a quarter of the level in 2019 before Corona. If you look at the market share last month, it is the lowest since 2004. Even considering that March, April, and May are off-seasons, this is why it is said to be the worst crisis in the history of Korean cinema. The audience first cited the price as the reason for not visiting the theater. -(Interview) It's a bit burdensome. If you don't care about the screen, it seems more reasonable to watch it comfortably at home. -(Reporter) Theaters, which were hit hard by Corona, have raised admission fees in advance. The perception that it is better to pay for a month's OTT usage fee and watch various contents at home has spread. I think there are many cases where you only watch what is really fun and popular. The number of movies being delayed due to a decrease in audience is also increasing. The so-called 'warehouse movies', which have completed production but have not been released, are known to have reached 90. As the investment is tied up, the shooting of new movies is also hesitant, and even the film development fund, which is only 3% of the admission fee, is facing a crisis of exhaustion soon. More than 90% of the works that are popular on OTT are made by movie personnel. If you do it wrong, it could really be a tremendous death. -(Reporter) While Korean movies are struggling, foreign movie sales have exceeded the 2019 level. -(Interview) I think everything is a transitional period. The era of movies is definitely coming again. What kind of content should be created so that the audience can return to the theater, I am seriously considering it.
