현대차가 우크라이나 전쟁 이후 가동을 멈췄던 러시아 현지 공장을 팔고 전면 철수하는 것으로 확인됐습니다.
현재 러시아에 진출해 있는 카자흐스탄 기업에 매각하는 협상이 마무리 단계에 접어든 것으로 전해졌습니다.
언제 어떤 조건으로 매각하는 것인지 먼저 임현주 기자가 단독 보도합니다.
2010년 지어진 러시아상트페테르부르크의 현대차 공장.
축구장 약 270배 면적의 규모로 연간 20만 대를 생산했습니다.
3년 전에는 인근의 GM공장까지 인수해 생산능력을 30만 대까지 확대했습니다.
러시아를 기반으로 유럽 시장에 진출하던 현대차가 최근 두 공장의 매각을 결정하고 러시아 정부의 최종 승인을 기다리고 있는 것으로 확인됐습니다.
단, 현대차가 원하는 시기에 공장을 다시 사들인다는 조건이 달렸습니다.
인수 기업은 러시아 현지에 진출한 카자흐스탄 기업으로, 현지 직원들의 고용 승계를 합의했습니다.
러시아 정부의 매각하는 방안도 검토됐지만 제3국 매각이 더 안전하다는 판단을 한 것으로 전해집니다.
러시아에 파견된 현대차 직원들도 5월까지 국내로 귀국하라는 지시가 내려질 예정입니다.
정확한 매각 대금은 아직 확인되지 않았습니다.
하지만, 1조 원 넘는 현대차 투자금의 대규모 손실은 피하기 힘들게 됐습니다.
부품을 조달하던 협력업체들도 철수하게 되면서 우리 기업의 피해는 더 커질 것으로 보입니다.
러시아 내에서 수입차 인지도 1위를 달리며 규모를 확장하던 현대차는 지난해 3월, 우크라이나 전쟁과 함께 생산을 중단했습니다.
국제사회의 제재로 반도체 등 핵심 부품 조달이 금지되면서 공장 가동이 멈췄고, 2000명이 넘는 현지 직원들은 대부분 회사를 떠났습니다.
두 국가의 관계 악화까지 겹치면서 자동차 판매량이 급감하더니 올해는 한 대도 팔지 못했습니다.
갖고 있던 재고 판 거 정도인 것 같더라고요.
생산은 거의 없는 상황, 빠진 물량들을 지금 중국 업체가 채우고 있는데.
현대차 측은 매각 논의가 진행 중인 건 사실이지만 아직 확정된 건 없다고 밝혔습니다.
